Millions of dollars presumably plundered from Asia Aquatics; calls for clarifications loom at upcoming General Congress in Doha.
Unveiling the Truth: The Shocking Scandal of Embezzlement at a Continental Sports Federation
In what is turning out to be a shocking revelation from within Asia Aquatics (formerly Asian Amateur Swimming Federation), millions of dollars are said to be missing from the accounting books of Asia Aquatics. It was recently revealed that support funds amounting to USD 1,000,000 per year, which were supposedly transmitted to the Asian Amateur Swimming Federation (AASF) between the years 2009-2016, went missing.
A letter addressed to Asia Aquatics president Sheikh Khalid B. Al Sabah written by secretary general Taha Al Kishry last 26 January 2024 was leaked to the public recently. The said letter claims that the Public Authority for Sport in Kuwait has supposedly been sending financial support to AASF through its president in the amount of USD 500,000 a year. This amount, as clarified by the government sport agency, was actually increased to close to USD 1,000,000. The embattled sport official claimed that none of these funds can be found within Asia Aquatics.
United Kingdom-based Freelance writer Ahmad Al-Salami echoed this in a tweet last 06 February 2024 where he claims a total of USD 7,000,000 sent over the period of 2010 to 2016 by the Public Authority for Sport in Kuwait to AASF went missing.
Millions of dollars from Kuwait for AASF go missing, clarifications to be sought at upcoming General Congress
The Public Authority for Sport in the State of Kuwait allocates constant financial support of USD one million per year for the benefit of the Asian Amateur Swimming Federation (AASF). However, the provided funds were not shown in the AASF’s accounts and or in the balance sheet throughout the years 2010-2016. The question to the AASF President is: where have these millions disappeared?

Al-Salami, however, also reveals that Al Kishry seems to have lost his influential position at Asia Aquatics as a result of Oman, Al Kishry’s country, not voting for AQUA President Husain Al-Musallam who was gunning for the Olympic Council of Asia presidency back in 2023. Al-Musallam purportedly excluded Al Kishry from all international sport forums under his supervision.
#سلطنة_عمان paid the price for its position in voting in favor of Sheikh #طلال_الفهد in the Olympic Council of Asia elections, by taking revenge on #طه_الكشري and excluding him from international sports forums under the supervision of #حسين_المسلم . Accordingly, it became necessary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open an investigation into the case.

With all nations gathering for the World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024, the scheduled Asia Aquatics General Congress on February 12 will be the appropriate forum for this serious allegation to be discussed amongst the member federations. The federations have already received a copy of the correspondence addressed to the Asia Aquatics president in which the fact about the financial support to the federation was revealed. Sources indicate that concrete evidence will be presented at this important event.
